Get To Know Our Inspirational Athletes – Stuart Robinson MBE

Introducing: Stuart Robinson MBE: Paralympic Gold Medallist, Former RAF Serviceman & Inspirational Speaker

At Inspirational Athletes, we’re proud to work with an incredible team of sportspeople who inspire young people across the UK every day. Our Get to Know Our Athletes series is your chance to hear directly from them – in their own words.

These videos are a chance for our Inspirational Athletes to answers some quickfire questions, sharing a bit more about who they are, what drives them, and what sport has taught them along the way.

Stuart Robinson MBE is a former Royal Air Force serviceman and Paralympic champion who now uses his story to inspire young people to break down barriers, challenge perceptions of disability, and understand how sport can be a powerful tool for success.

Stuart served with distinction in the RAF Regiment and was on his fourth tour of duty in Afghanistan when he was seriously injured by an improvised explosive device, resulting in life-changing injuries. Rather than be defined by his circumstances, Stuart embarked on a remarkable journey of recovery and rediscovery.

Introduced to wheelchair rugby in 2014, Stuart quickly demonstrated his natural talent for the sport and was selected to represent Team UK at the Invictus Games in London, where he won gold. His success propelled him onto the GB Wheelchair Rugby development squad, and in 2016 he was part of the Rio Paralympic Inspiration Programme, attending the Games as part of his elite athlete development.

Stuart continued to rise through the ranks, representing the UK again at the 2016 and 2017 Invictus Games, claiming bronze and silver medals. Later in 2016, he was invited to join the GB Elite squad, playing a crucial role in their European Championship victories in both 2017 and 2019.

His proudest sporting achievement came at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games (held in 2021), where Stuart helped ParalympicsGB secure an historic gold medal, defeating the USA in a thrilling 54–49 final.

Beyond the pitch, Stuart has become a prominent speaker and advocate. He’s featured on Sky Sports’ Game Changers, is an Ambassador for the RAF Benevolent Fund, and regularly speaks at schools, inspiring children and young people to believe in their potential, whatever challenges they may face.
