Lesley Owusu is a former international sprinter who proudly represented Great Britain on the global stage.

A European record holder for the 600 yards, Lesley’s athletic career has been marked by drive, determination, and an unwavering passion for sport.

Her journey began with a simple playground race, organised by her brother when she was just seven years old. That first win lit a fire in Lesley — a spark that would grow into a lifelong pursuit of sporting excellence. Encouraged by her teachers, she joined her local athletics club and quickly became known for her exceptional speed and competitive spirit.

A naturally gifted all-rounder, Lesley loved everything from netball to basketball, but it was clear early on that she had something special on the track. By the age of 13, she was already representing England, and just three years later, she donned the GB vest in the 400m.

Lesley’s drive took her to the University of Nebraska on a prestigious athletics scholarship, where she became one of the most decorated athletes of her era. A highlight of her collegiate career was winning the 200m and 400m at the 2001 Big 12 Indoor Championships — followed by silver at the NCAA Championships and a world best time in the 600 yards, a British and European record that still ranks as the second fastest in history.

Behind Lesley’s success lies a strong work ethic, relentless determination, and the constant support of her family. She credits her achievements not only to talent, but to discipline, resilience and her deep-rooted hunger to be her best — both on and off the track.

Today, Lesley shares her story to inspire others to chase their dreams, embrace challenges and believe in their own ability to succeed, whatever path they choose.
