Kelly Simm is an artistic gymnast who has been representing Great Britain for 12 years.
Kelly has had some exceptional achievements throughout her career, including four Commonwealth Games medals from three consecutive Commonwealth Games, a World Championship team bronze medal, as well as major titles including British All Around Champion in 2018, and an historic World University Games All Around title in 2015.
Kelly began gymnastics at the age of 6 at her local club, Dynamo School of Gymnastics. Not knowing anything about the sport, she worked hard as a young athlete alongside her coaches, reaching training hours of up to 30 hours a week, alongside school! The disciplined training schedule and time management skills she developed paid off 10 years later when Kelly was selected onto the Great Britain team in 2010 at 16 years old.
Kelly’s career has not come without its challenges and she, like most, has had to persevere to overcome many setbacks and career threatening injuries to achieve her successes. Alongside her international sporting career, Kelly took her education up to a master’s degree level as well as developing her speaking in primary schools, providing inspirational and fun assemblies with the aim of empowering children to go for their dreams and never give up when challenges come their way.
Every athlete faces tough times, whether it’s injury, defeat, or personal challenges. In this talk, our athletes open up about the adversity they have experienced and how they found the strength to bounce back. Pupils will learn about the importance of resilience, determination, and staying positive in difficult situations. These are valuable lessons they can use in school, sport, and life.
Reaching the top in sport takes more than talent. It requires leadership and performing at your very best when it matters most. In this talk, our athletes share how they prepare to deliver under pressure, lead by example, and bring out the best in themselves and those around them. Pupils will learn how strong leadership, focus, and self-belief can help them achieve their own peak performance in school, sport, and life.
Motivation plays a huge role in helping athletes perform at their best, and the same is true in the classroom. In this session, our athletes explain how they stay motivated in tough moments and what drives them to succeed. Pupils will pick up practical ideas for staying focused, setting personal goals, and using motivation to improve their own performance at school and in life.
Kelly spoke to our Elite Sports Programme about her journey and career. It was really interesting and relevant to our young people, many of whom are looking to reach the next step in their sporting careers.
Kelly came to our Sports Personality evening in June 2023. Before the evening, Kelly ensured she understood what our school motto was and included this in her presentation- it was a really nice touch. Kelly spoke about her early life as a gymnast as well as her successes and her setbacks. It was really inspiring to hear of an athlete who keeps pushing to achieve her best, even when things get in the way. She was really clear when presenting and put together a very professional looking PowerPoint, which included some impressive videos of her gymnastic skills! As well as presenting, Kelly also spent the evening handing out the awards to our pupils. If you are looking for a professional, approachable and positive athlete- you should choose Kelly.
