Clare Griffiths is a former wheelchair basketball star who represented Great Britain at five Paralympic Games, from Sydney 2000 to Rio 2016.
Clare Griffiths retired after a career-high performance at Rio, where the team achieved a personal best 4th-place finish, competing in their first major championship medal match.
Clare’s journey began in 1997 following a horse-riding accident that left her paralysed from the waist down. During her rehabilitation at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, the birthplace of the Paralympic Games, Clare discovered wheelchair basketball. Within a year, she was selected to represent Great Britain at the World Championships in Sydney and quickly became a core member of the GB women’s team.
Clare captained Team GB at the London 2012 Games and has won numerous accolades, including a Gold Medal at the 2011 Paralympic World Cup and seven European bronze medals. She also earned All-Star 5 awards at the 2007 and 2011 European Championships.
Off the court, Clare holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science from Loughborough University. She draws from her life and sporting experiences to deliver inspiring keynotes on mental toughness, coping with change, and achieving sustained high performance. Clare Griffiths shares practical lessons on teamwork and resilience, working with some of the world’s leading companies and brands at board and senior management levels.
